Buddy Love Gunfighter Throwdown Hits the Mark!

It’s Monday, and the shootin irons have finally cooled. By all accounts, the Buddy Love Gunfighter Throwdown was a resounding success! With over 30 shooters each day, the weekend was packed with action, camaraderie, and plenty of lead-slinging fun.

The coveted 5 Dogs Creek “Clean Shooter” badges were flying off the table—12 awarded on Saturday and 19 on Sunday. Rumor has it the club might be sending Buddy a bill for the extra awards… just kidding, Buddy! 😄

This match was specially crafted to be Gunfighter-friendly, featuring simplified stages and closer-than-usual target placements. The goal? To welcome first-time Gunfighters and celebrate those who live the Gunfighter life year-round. Mission accomplished!

September Match Scores

Good morning, fine folks of 5 Dogs Creek!

I hope you’re all well-rested and made it home safely after this weekend’s September Back-to-School Match, brilliantly crafted by none other than Gunpowder ‘N Grace.

The stages were a true test—unique, challenging, occasionally frustrating—but above all, fun. Every shooter earned an “A” for effort, and most walked away with a gold star for their outstanding attitude.

When the final shot echoed and the gear was packed away, a few sharp shooters rose to the top, untouched by the academic gauntlet.

Scores June 2025

The June match was one of those that tests everyone’s understanding of our shoot schedule. The “June Match” was Saturday May 31st and Sunday June 1st. Our shoot schedule rule is; The first Sunday of the month, and the Saturday that goes with it. It’s easy when you know it.

And of course camping the night before any scheduled shootin match is always OK at 5 Dogs Creek Cowboy Action shooters.  We always have people camping out the Friday night before the match weekend, and even more campers on the Saturday night of match weekend. Once you’ve paid your match fees for the day, you are welcome to shoot more after the match. Ideally head down to the right towards Bay 10, so the folks socializing at the tables get a break. Remember our cowboy range is a “lead-only” range, no copper jacketed bullets allowed. Or let the afternoon drift by as you sit and socialize, or work on that project you brought. Or a range project that needs doin. Ask anyone on the town council if you’d like help out on a range project, we always need the help.

Anyway, it makes for a really nice way to spend a weekend. After the main match, you get Saturday afternoon off and the time may go by fast or slowly. All up to you.

Potluck Dinner or Appetizers in the evening, look for the sign saying what time.

We had a great turn out this weekend at 5 Dogs Creek, especially for it also being EOT weekend. Nice of those top shooters to give the rest of us a chance to rank higher in a club match.

Saturday weather was really nice, warm & sunny all day. Green grass for miles. Little bunny rabbits bouncing all over in the morning. 5 stages of fun, the afternoon off, then a well attended potluck dinner. Ah, there is nothing so peaceful as the shooting range.

Sunday weather started out sunny, but soon got a little bit wild with a small twister at stage 3 that threw leaves and hats all over. Heavy rain had been predicted for Sunday but it did not come. It did rain for about 3 minutes as we were starting stage four, but it stopped as quick as it started & we all finished the match with blue skies & sunshine. Almost rainbow weather.

Some folks who dilly-dallied before heading home on Sunday reported blizzard snow conditions in Tehachapi about dinner time.

It’s possible that the favorite stage line was; “I tried being reasonable. I didn’t like it”.

Overall, another great weekend at 5 Dogs Creek, it’s always so nice to be having fun in such great company.
