March 2007 Edition

Well folks what a weekend! This months match was put on by Mudhen Millie and Chama Bill and did they ever do a bang up job. You had to really put your thinking cap on for some of those stages for sure and you really needed those extra shotgun shells too. What a blast! Our hats are off to you guys for doing such a great job and making it such a fun and interesting shoot. Yea Haw!!!

The weather really was beautiful during the day but it sure got cold at night. Those ole blankets sure felt great at the end of the day. In my books the nights can still be called snuggling weather for a while longer.

For those of you who attended the meeting at 5 Dogs this last month I would like to thank you for attending. It is always a big help when the club members are there so they can see and hear what is going on. A lot better than someone else can in the retelling. Anyway, for those of you who didn't make it you missed a nice gathering of friends who are trying to better our club. We need to all jump in and help out more and try and get some work weekends going to help spruce up the range for the annual this year. For those of you who can't make it on a weekend, if you wanted to work during the week that would really help out too. All help is appreciated. At our next meeting we are hoping to get things lined out about what jobs need doing and who is going to take on that job and be willing to getting it done. These jobs aren't just only for the annual. These are jobs that need doing all the time. There was talk of putting up a Job Poster Board somewhere and adding jobs to it that needed doing and who will take that job on. Also there was some discussion about having a short shoot on Saturdays and a work party afterward each month too. So please be sure to come to the next months meeting so you can see for yourself what is going on.

Thought it was long past time to kick-up a little dust and remind folks that the Central California Range War is taking place at Fort Miller. It's up to 5 Dogs and CVR to take that bad boy away!! Here is a photo of said bad boy...better known as the CCRW trophy aka the Crooning Outhouse Cowboy. Also included is a little ditty I wrote about our favorite crooner and an article about the CCRW.
Calgory Kate

Crooning Outhouse Cowboy
He sings his songs…slightly off tune.
Some say he's crazier than a loon.
He sings in bars, he sings in the streets
He sings to everyone he meets.
But, the secret is out; the whole town knows,
He loves to sing most when the door is closed.
The outhouse acoustics are best no doubt.
He strikes up a chord and…lets it all out.
A song that is, he croons with zest.
He's just may be the best in the west.
A Range War has started to bring him in.
Five Dogs, Fort Miller, John Wayne want to win.
If you shoot real fast and the others do not,
(Forget the ringers who can be bought)
This crooner of sorts is yours to take.
The pride of the valley is now at stake.
So trip up your pals and make your aim true
Be at Fort Miller and bring friends with you.
When the smoke has cleared it'll be time of joy.
For the winner of the “Crooning Outhouse Cowboy.”

Central California Range War is set for April 12 thru 15, 2007 at KKR in Clovis CA. Yes, folks, it's been a year and now is the time to take the bragging rights away from the Kings River Regulators…and more importantly, take possession of the Crooning Outhouse Cowboy trophy. This year the Central California Range War will be held during Fort Miller, and you better get signed-up quickly as they are nearly sold out. For those of you who are clueless about the importance of the annual CCRW, let me fill you in.

The CCRW is just a fun way to encourage a little friendly competition between the Kings River Regulators, 5 Dogs Creek and the Chorro Valley Regulators and greater participation in the annual matches of all three clubs. Here's the basic scoop:
The CCRW is held each year during the annual match of the club that currently has claim to the coveted title of “winner.” This year that is the Kings River Regulators. This is basically a match within a match. The Range War will have no impact on the standings of the annual match.

All club members registered for the annual match where the Range War takes place will compete for their respective club. Everyone will have an opportunity to represent their club and all categories will be included equally.

For each stage of the annual match, three names will be selected randomly for each of the three clubs. The times for those selected for each stage will be totaled (inclusive of misses/bonuses). The club with the fastest total time wins, will keep the Crooning Outhouse Cowboy and will host the CCRW at their next annual match.

The competitors for each stage will not be announced in advance. All cowboys should be at the top of their game at all times.

Have fun. Good-natured trash talking is highly encouraged. And, most importantly, 5 Dogs Creek is ready to bring KRR and CVR to their knees.

Since there were some questions asked about our NRA numbers and how soon we could get them here is an email that should clarify the questions.
Vixen asked me to pass this along to all our NRA members.

Subject: Re: NRA Memberships for Cowboy shooters

If people sign up online do they get their membership number right then and there? Just curious. I think a lot of people are under the impression that they do. Please let me know so I can pass it on to them.

No, there's still the data processing and other stuff that needs to take place. Regardless of how technologically advanced we (the NRA) gets, we still have the human touch!

Usually a membership number appears w/in 5-7 days. The member can always call to confirm their number. Of course, if they're a renewal, their number remains the same. Additionally, the order confirmation page can serve (if that's alright with the club) as proof of membership.

New Faces in the crowd this month includes some new shooters and some experienced shooters who just haven't been shooting here in a while. These include Hitch, Hop A Long Roy, Baddog Nobiscuit, and Ned Christy who used to go by “Cherokee”. We also had a little buckaroo by the name of Gunsmoke join us. He sure was calm and collected under fire and put on quite a good shoot. Way to go Gunsmoke!!. Welcome around our campfire guys.!!!
Professor Cubby Bear also decided to try something different. He shot with only one pistol and reloaded on the clock. He had an impressive score even with his self imposed handy cap. Got any new ideas Professor?
Ok now, I want to remind everyone that with this next months match coming up, you will need to bring extra ammo and plenty of shotgun shells. There will be six stages to help you get ready for the annual. Sunshine Kid will be putting this match on (with some muscle help from Montego), so I know you will be having a great time and get some good practice to boot.

Since everyone enjoyed a great potluck this month and the weather is warming up I suggest another potluck for March 31, Saturday night too. Pot luck time should start around 4pm, So bring your favorite dish to share and your choice of meat to bbq if you want and get ready to have a great spring evening. Maybe the weather won't be too cold but we can still enjoy the campfire.

There's the *COWBOY SWAP MEET* on Saturday and Sunday.
Come to the range early and bring cowboy items to sell and lots of money
to make purchases. There are no fees to buy or sell. Set up your stuff
on a picnic table or whatever. Might as well do it early, so everybody
can see it. Not a bad idea to put out prices, and your name so people
know who to pay if you wander off.
